I speak no English

by affy on May 31, 2007

If you can’t really see the text in the photo:

Pre U students are not allowed to seat and occupied this area during BREAK TIME 10:00 – 10:30 am. DO NOT leave any rubbish on the table. Thank You. — Head Of School Canteen Committee 2007

Incase you don’t know, Pre U students refers to us (me), by the way.

I don’t think there is the need for me to underline, magnify or insert red circles to show you what is wrong with the above photo.

And they wonder why students in this school don’t excel in English Language.

What’s even more embarrassing is that, it is signed by the principal (correct me if I’m wrong), complete with the official school stamp, stamped on it. What happened to reading before signing anything?

I don’t see myself as someone who is good in English but jeez, even my little sister can spot the problem.

And where did all those native English-speaking teachers go?

You can spot more of these hilarious no-english-at-all signs in the library. One is posted on the front entrance door but I didn’t manage to get a snapshot of it. There are more inside. See if you can spot them.

I would be more than happy to get a snapshot of every english-gone-wrong signs in the library, but the premise is closely monitored by hawk-eyed PMS librarians (no phones in school, remember?)

Incase you’re wondering, yeah I was sitting in the Secondary Section. Yeah who cares, right? I suggest everyone to please proof-read their materials before publicizing it, if you want to be taken seriously that is.

I hate those librarians. And you’re right about them being “hawk-eyed”. Not only we’re not allowed to bring phones to school anymore (although a lot of students still bring them anyway), the librarians won’t allow the students to use the PC at the library unless we have permission from our tutors.

I don’t see any reason at all why phones aren’t allowed in school? Cheating? Then they could confiscate it during an examination. But they don’t realize how much hassle it can cause without phones. Why can teachers bring phones to school?

About those signs. I can’t believe it. Our school maybe wouldn’t be as big as yours but we’re quite strict on grammar and those signs would result to parents complaining here in our school.

@Syaz: pffttt. Those librarians think they own the school. If that’s the case, why not just box those PCs and keep them in triple-lock safes. The school bought those PCs for students to use, NOT for the librarians to safe-guard.

@Jewelle: I didn’t mean to generalize. Hehe. I was only referring to the librarians working at the school. The only logical explanation for their sudden outburst is PMS. Hehe. And, walking pass the front gates is like passing through security checks — hawk-eyed. Hehe.
