Movie Review: Love is Cinta

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

The only reason I watched the movie was because the DVD was already in the player. How can you not resist the urge to just press play when you’re sitting comfortably in the chair and don’t feel like moving?

Boring. The only reason I am giving it a 1 is because the girl has a weird shaped mouth, and I feel very sorry for her.
How come that guy is in the promotional poster? He was on screen for only 10 minutes (or less).

and why does Shia LaBeouf always get to kiss the steamy hot chick at the end of every movie? - Lucky bastard

I pretty much seen all the summer blockbusters I plan to watch this year. Any more recommendations?

Movie: The Simpsons Movie

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

I watched the Simpsons last Sunday and yeap, this is a long overdue review.
I highly recommend this to everyone, bring your Amahs even.

It’s so funny I almost choked on popcorn.
Great movie. Homer is hilarious as always. Matt Groening is a genius.

But be sure to take a trip to the restroom before the movie. We don’t want ’spills’ on the cinema seats now, do we?

I am not going to type a super long entry because, uh, I don’t feel like it.

Transformers
Rating: ★★★★★
Great movie. Hot Chick. Really bad front row seats but still enjoyable.

Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix
Rating: ★★★★½
I maybe a little biased, just cause I am a huge Harry Potter movie (not the books) fan. Great seats with stupid noisy people behind.

Skipping school tomorrow. :D

Don’t look back in anger

Sunday, March 18th, 2007

The very much needed and long awaited March Break is here. I wouldn’t call it March holidays nor a week’s unwind, cause I have tons of homework and a Mathematics test - all due the very first day school resumes. It pretty much feels like any other school day to me, except I can sleep when I want, wake when I want.

And I am putting extra effort to sit and study for the next Mathematics test this time, instead of winging it like I usually do. I failed the previous tests miserably, which makes me at high risk of being booted out of Mathematics class. I am up for the 2 year challenge, really.

Okay, enough about school.

This trailer scared the shit out of me. If you know me well, which I am pretty sure most of you don’t, I like watching horror movies — the scarier the better! I think it must be the adrenaline rush I get when watching at-the-edge-of-your-seat movies. So, back to the trailer. I was channel surfing, in a dim room with a surround sound to it’s full potential (it’s Akademi Fantasia concert night*) then came on this Malaysia newest thriller movie trailer - “Jangan Pandang Belakang” (non-Malay speaking readers: “Don’t look back”).

I have been hearing rave reviews from bloggers about the movie, 300. It is also on my ‘Movies to look forward to this 2007‘ list. Am I the only one who hasn’t seen it yet?

*I didn’t watch Akademi Fantasia (a few seconds doesn’t count) and I don’t plan on watching it either. If you want to talk AF day-in-day-out, I suggest you to meet my parents. They are dieheart AF fans and it’s getting annoying. And Astro, if you’re reading this, can you remove channel @15 off our list of services during daytime?

Movie Review: Norbit

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

norbit-poster
Directed by Brian Robbins
Starring: Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Eddie Murphy, Cuba Gooding Jr., Eddie Griffin and Alexis Rhee

Norbit is an un-funny comedy played by Eddie Murphy. This movie has an incredible collection of strange, over-used, toneless compilation of fat jokes, fart jokes and foul sex gags.

Eddie is back doing his multiple character thing. In this film, he plays Norbit — a sweet, mild-mannered nerd with a lisp. Norbit is married to Rasputia (Murphy again), an overpowering monster of a woman who mercilessly bullies her spouse. She’s grossly overweight, and thanks to the magic of Rick Baker’s makeup, we can see every little stretch mark and fat roll - in a bikini scene, no less.

I’ll be brutally honest here. Norbit is a very poorly made film, with jokes used over and over and over again, and it wasn’t funny the first time. There are some decent laughs in the movie but they were unsufficient (every comedy film needs good humor in abundance). This movie is a train-wreck. To answer the tagline — Have you ever made a really big mistake? — Well, yes, I saw your film. The only thing enjoyable was the cineplex popcorn and my root beer. By far the worst Eddie Murphy movie.

The cinema was quite packed. I guess everyone, including me, fell for the trailer. I want my $7 back.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Only watch if you have nothing productive to do.

Movies to look forward to this 2007

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

My Saturday so far:
Woke up 9.20AM. Breakfast. Shower. Heroes Ep13. Lay in bed. Fell a sleep. Woke up around 4.30PM. Ate left-over cookies. Blog.

How exciting, huh?

I ditched Sesame Street for The Simpsons.

Great trailer + awesome graphics = must see

And lastly, Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix. Yes, I do admit, I like the series, ever-since Sorcerer’s Stone premiered. I’ve never read any of the books before.

Okay, Heroes Ep14 has been screaming my name all afternoon.
Ciao.

Movie Review: Blood Diamond

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Directed by Edward Zwick
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio (Danny Archer), Jennifer Connely (Maddy Bowen), Djimon Hounsou (Solomon Vandy)

Blood Diamond Movie Trailer

Blood Diamond is a bullet-train-paced thriller with serious political overtone set against the backdrop of the chaos and civil war in 1990s Sierra Leone. Blood Diamond is jammed pack with explosives, gun fires and violence (Rated R for violence and language in the US) with action sequences of blood-rushing ferocity.

I had my doubts about Blood Diamond, but upon exiting the cinema doors, in a slight daze, it definitely proved me wrong. Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) doesn’t really do a hell of a job with the English accent. There are a few chronological errors (I managed to catch only one) but that I can forgive. I think the cinema also edited and removed some unappropriate scenes. At times, the movie looks jumpy.

The idea of the story came from the world Blood Diamond trade — jewels smuggled out of war-torn nations with profits that further the bloodshed. A very well written and unpredictable story plot. Very emotional and heart-wrenching at the same time. A few good humor here and there. The run-time is 30 minutes longer than your average film, but I swear you won’t notice. Yes, it’s that good.
